The end of the year is upon us! As we tie up loose ends and wrap up our projects (while wrapping gifts for our loved ones), we take a look back at the last 12 months. Join us in celebrating our favourite moments and milestones in 2018…
Thompsons Travel turns 40!
In February, we celebrated our 40th birthday. We marked the milestone by flying all our teams to Johannesburg for an epic party celebrating our 40 successful years in the travel industry along with the incredible commitment shown by our long-service staff – some of whom have been with Thompsons from the get-go.
Mary receives ASATA Award
In March, Thompsons Travel CEO, Mary Shilletto received the ASATA Award for Exceptional Commitment. The ASATA Awards recognise the individuals who consistently exceed expectations, display great people skills, have strong travel knowledge, pay close attention to detail, offer superb client support, and set exceptionally high standards to the benefit of the entire South African travel industry. That’s our Mary!
Top 10 achievers travel to Bali
Our Top 10 achievers from 2017 journeyed to Bali in March for a Club Med holiday. In recognition of their hard work and fabulous results, the trip gave them a chance to recharge, relax and reflect in paradise.
Thompsons Travel flying high
Thompsons Travel received the award for excellence at the Delta Airline Awards held in Johannesburg. Our Durban team also achieved third place as Partner Plus Benefit Supporter at the Lufthansa Awards in May.
We get a makeover
We launched a fresh new look for our brand which coincided with our revamped offices. This resulted in a renewed and energised chapter for Thompsons Travel Retail.
Thompsons Travel meets Christo Brand
Ahead of Mandela Day in July, we were honoured to attend an inspirational talk by Christo Brand, former prison guard and friend to Nelson Mandela.
Conferences and exhibitions
In August, we exhibited at the Holiday Expo at Montecasino, representing the leisure (and bleisure) side of our business. October was a busy month for us as we headed to the Birchwood in Johannesburg for the Beyond Xlence Conference, and Mary and Sharon attended the annual Egencia Conference in Colombia.
Team building cook-off
To end the year on a sizzling note, we hosted a national team building cook-off. Not only did we create our own Mauritian-inspired menus from fresh ingredients, but we also announced the Top 10 achievers who will go barging in France in 2019!
Thanks to all our clients and colleagues for their support in making 2018 such a successful year. We look forward to a prosperous 2019!
